This week was our first session with Mr. Sameer after a while and we went over the VR and AR and gave us our last project for this module-

For this assignment, you will be required to create an Augmented Reality experience using Spark AR, and creating a presentation based on your learnings. The idea is to develop an experience, and create a presentation describing the process and learning.

My Spark AR Project

My Goal: To make an interactable filter with Spark AR that changes the users face, adding scales over it and make it so that when the use opens their mouth, flames would start spewing out

My Procedure:

Adding to the scene

•I began my project by adding a Face Mesh to my scene to get a real-time reactive mesh of the user’s face.

•I then added a material texture of a png of dragon scales that I edited using Photopea and added some scars.

Adding a particle system

•I added in an emitter (which I made the child to my second face tracker) to my scene and placed it directly in front of the user’s mouth.

•I then added a flame texture to replace the stock blocks.

•Finally, I changed emitter type to line and adjusted the rotation to make the flames move straight ahead as opposed to going straight up by default.

Interactivity

•I then utilized the patch editor to add some logic to the filter.

•After some experimentation, I was able to make the flames spew out on the condition where the user’s mouth is open.

•Finally, I increased the sprite’s birthrate and speed.

Filter in Motion:

Reflection:

The experience from this project was very valuable to me as it was my first foray into making Augmented Reality related content. I was able to grasp the basic concepts of Spark AR in the past couple of weeks and make an interactable filter. In the future I hope to make more advanced projects in spark AR using tools like the hand tracker or target tracker and add more complex commands/conditions with the patch editor.
