Though we did not cover much overall in this week's class, we went over the essentials of information literacy and how to properly utilize our sources.
We started with a (re) introduction with Dr. Fehmida, who lead this weeks lecture. We preceeded to begin the lecture with a brief introduction on 'Information Literacy', which is defined as "Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to 'recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.”
We then moved on to a discussion about different sources of information and their various pros and cons, such as books which are good for a clear overview but no consistent with current information, or web pages which can push current info but can be susceptible to biases, and more such sources.
We also talked about the importance of evaluating information and how we need to get into the habit of following the SCONUL model and referencing the PROMPT model while we gather our resarch:

We were adviced to regularily use the MDX Library Search for trusted information from thousands of articles and books made available to us. We were shown how to access it as well as integrate it into Google Scholar.
We concluded our class with a discussion on Academic Integrity, encouraging us to be truthful in our academic pursuits (and the penalties if we are not), a poll on our first 30 days at MDX and an activity based on utilizing PROMPT model.
